Facts and Events
Regan has: the death date for this Jabez Beers may have been Dec. 5, 1848. Inscriptions from Mound View Cem., Mt. Vernon, OH, sent in by Ransom Beers, include the burial record of a J. Beers who d. 5 Dec. 1838 in his or her 66th year. Jabez was listed in the 1840 census but was not there in 1850. If this stone was possibly misread (1838 for 1848), this might well be Jabez. Jabez and a Daniel Beers (probably a first cousin - son of Daniel) left NJ together to settle in Ohio about 1805. County historians list him as one of the frst settlers of the town of Fredericktown which was founded in 1807 and where in 1812 it was recorded that there were already 9 log cabins and one frame building. He was a "reader" at the town's first Fourth of July celebration in 1817. He and Daniel Beers operated a carding and fulling mill there. Indexes to the 1830 and 1840 census list him in Wayne Township, Knox Co. References
