OBITUARY-
STEWARTVILLE -- The funeral for Ida Ruth Welch will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ with the Rev. John Kester officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.
Mrs. Welch, 88, of Stewartville, died of natural causes Thursday (Feb. 25, 1999) at Stewartville Care Center.
Ida Ruth Clark was born Nov. 29, 1910 in Pleasant Grove Township, and grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Stewartville High School and on Oct. 24, 1933, she married Walter L. Welch at her home in Pleasant Grove Township. The couple farmed in Pleasant Grove from 1933 to 1961, when they retired and moved to Rochester. Mr. Welch died in December of 1963. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Welch worked as a nanny for several Rochester families. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, was a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years, and in 1988, was honored by the church for her many years of teaching. She was also past president of the Ladies Mission Workers Society of the church.
Survivors include one son, John Luther Welch of rural Stewartville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one brother, Myron W. Clark of Mesa, Ariz.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and until 11 a.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
