    Hugh1 Chaplin, said to have been born 22 May, 1603, and son of Ebenezer Chaplin, who was born 10 May, 1572, who was son of Jeremiah Chaplin of Bradford, England, who was born 4 Aug., 1541, had an acre and half house lot on Bradford Street, 1643; freeman, 18 : 3 mo 1642. … He was buried 22 : 1 mo. 1653. His will, dated 11 : 1 mo. 1653, mentions wife, Elizabeth, to have the estate during widowhood; eldest son John, and other children (unnamed). Inventory taken 3 Dec., 1656 (Essex Court Files, 3:104). [After the widow's remarriage] … the estate was then divided and assigned to John, as eldest son, and three other sons (Essex Probate, Judicial Papers, 1:263).
