"88. Horatio5 Upson (John4, John3, Stephen2, Thomas1). Born August 21, 1777, Southington. Died December 12, 1849, Tallmadge, Ohio. Married Waterbury, Hannah, daughter of Moses and Jemima (Upson) Cook, a descendant of Stephen Upson. She born March 5, 1776, Waterbury. Died Tallmadge, Ohio, February 22, 1841. Horatio Upson was a shoemaker, when that trade was one of the most important trades in our country. His account-book in possession of his descendant, George L. Upson, of Kent, Ohio, contains the name of many a noted family in Waterbury. His brothers probably urged him to join them in Ohio, because, when he did arrive, the family kept him so busy he had little opportunity to take on any more customers. Horatio Upson loved Connecticut and it was not until his sons went to Ohio that he left the land of his birth. During the War of 1812 he served under Captain John Buckingham, with his brother, John Upson. This was a Company made up of young men from Waterbury and Watertown."
