Enlisted 6 Mar 1891, Troop A, Squadron A, New York Cavalry. Served in the ranks, promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, 23 Jun 1896 ; 1st Lieutenant, Troop 3, 18 Dec 1896; Captain, commanding Troop 3, Squadron A, 16 Feb 1900.

Saw service in 1892 with Troop A during the Buffalo Switchmen's Strike;in the Brooklyn Trolley Strike, Jan 1895; and in the Croton Dam Strike, Apr 1900.

Transferred as Governor's Staff Aide (New York), 1 Jan 1907 to 21 Aug 1908.

Served as a 1st Lieutenant & Captain in the Depot Troop, Squadron A of the Cavalry (later Depot Cavalry, Squadron A), during the Mexican Border period. In 1917 he was commander of Squadron A, New York Guard.

Commissioned Major of infantry, Apr 1918, serving with Headquarters, 27th Division; then with the 105th Infantry, 27th Division, British 2nd Army Headquarters; then with 2nd Army Headquarters, AEF, and Service of Supply.

Discharged Jul 1919.
