HENRY was probably born in the Palatinate, and not "Bavaria" as some records state.

His tombstone sits aside from others in the cemetery. This compiler recalls that Ron Woodward (the Wabash County Historian) told me the story of why HENRY was so ostracized, but the actual story has been forgotten.

In Section 12, southwest of Urbana, a plat map shows a "H. SHINDLER" as owning 80 acres of land. This is likely where Henry resided.

  3. The 1880 Census enumeration shows a 59 year old Henry Shindler, a farmer, as having a 47 year old wife, Christina, and children Lydia and Henry. Also living in the household was a 3 year old grandson, Jacob F. Miller, of which we know nothing.

The previous enumeration was Charles Haupert, who we know married Mary Elizabeth Shindler in 1872.
