Henry Kitt was born on 1st August 1810 at Brixton in Devon, son of Judith Kitt, formerly Foot, and her husband Henry Kitt, a basket maker. Young Henry grew up to follow his father's profession.
He was married in Plymouth on 23rd October 1837, aged 27, to Elizabeth Harry. The 1841 census finds them living at Oxford Row in Plymouth. By 1851 they had moved to 11 Claremont Street, where they appeared to have lived for the rest of their lives. They appear to have had at least five children. Henry employed several people in his basket making business.
Henry died in 1882, aged 72. Elizabeth survived him by less than a year.
