PHILLIPS -- Mr. and Mrs. H. Leonard Kinney were guests of honor at a dinner party on Saturday night at the John Martin Manor, Waterville, in observance of their 40th wedding anniversary.
The affair was arranged by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Parker, Bingham, with the cooperation of the Kinney's son, Eric Kinney, who lives in Colorado and was unable to be present.
The honored couple was presented a red rose corsage and boutonniere. The table centerpiece of red carnations and daisies with red candies, appropriate to the 40th anniversary, was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Stinchfield, for whom Mrs. Kinney is employed as secretary.
A champagne toast provided by Eric Kinney, preceded the dinner. Appropriate music was enjoyed during the meal. An anniversary cake, featuring ruby decorations, was the gift of the couple's daughter, Mrs. John (Gail) Parker. A telephone call from their son in Colorado was a surprise during the party. Guest attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Parker and children, Bingham; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Douglas, Westbrook; Mr. and Mrs. Donnelly Douglas, Yarmouth; Mr. and Mrs. George Toothaker, Portland; Mr. and Mrs. James Douglas, Mr. and Mrs Ray Kinney, Mrs. Marian Wing and the honored couple. all of Phillips.
Mr. and Mrs. Kinney recieved an anniversary purse of money from their guests.
H. Leonard Kinney and Elaine Gates were married June 29, 1940, at Farmington by Rev. Albert Henderson, then pastor of Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, Farmington. Their attendants were Pearl Cushman Dinuzzio, now of Ashburnham, Mass., and John Storer, Avon.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Kinney are active in the social and fraternal life of the community. Mr. Kinney retired last year from long-time employment by the State of Maine at the local fish hatchery.
The couple live in their new home which they built recently on Rte. 4 about four miles north of Phillips.
