Times 23feb1923: marriage planned in Lahore of Capt. Henry William Luttman-Johnson, Hodson’s Horse, son of late Henry Luttman-Johnson, of Bengal Civil Service, and Mrs. Luttman-Johnson, Buckingham St., SW1, and Susan Fortune, youngest daughter of late J. D. Lumsden and Mrs. Lumsden, Huntingtowerfield, Perthshire. Henry was son of Henry Luttman-Johnson (b. 1843, d. 20nov1912 Brighton), one of the best known figures in the Indian Civil Service, and Rosalie, widow of late Edward Stack, ICS (Times, 22nov1912). A son was born to Susan, wife of Capt. H. W. Luttnam Johnson, Up Marden, nr. Chichester 13aug1928 (Times). Susan died before 1936 of cancer, leaving a boy and a girl (family letters). Susan must have died before her husband remarried 4dec1934; the marriage of Capt. H. W. Luttman-Johnson, late 9th Hodson’s Horse and Mary Doris Dunn was planned 19oct1934 (Times). Henry William was known as Billy (D. Sangster). From britishonlinearchives: During the 1930s Luttman-Johnson, a Scottish landowner and former cavalry officer in the Indian Army, was active in right-wing and pro-Fascist circles in Britain, becoming Honorary Secretary of the short-lived January Club in 1934 and Secretary of the Windsor Club shortly thereafter. The January Club, with which the majority of the relevant correspondence is concerned, was conceived as a discussion group for those who were interested in Fascist and Corporate State thinking, and its leading members included Sir John Squire (as Chairman) and Major Francis Yeats-Brown. As a result of his political activities, Luttman-Johnson, like Mosley, was detained under the provisions of Defence Regulation 18B shortly after the outbreak of war in 1939. Luttman-Johnson had lived at his estate at Blackpark near Luncarty, Perthshire, with his wife, Doris. |
