The Will of Johannes Henry Hedrick 1 Nov 1800:
In the name of God Amen. I Henry Hedrick of Greenbrier County and State of Virginia being in perfect mind and memory thanks be (give) to God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament to bring the following manner. That is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul to the Almighty God who gave it, and my body to the Earth to be interred in a Christian manner at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God at the General Resurrection. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life. I give and bequeath the place(same) in the following manner. Viz:
First I prefer(order) all my just debts to be paid as soon as possible after my death(decease). I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth my plantation and all the land whereon I now live; and also all my horses, cattle, sheep and hogs (with my farming utensils) with every appurtenance belonging there unto during her natural life time. But if she should marry again the following condition (division) immediately take place, one of(except) the thirds of my planation she shall have use of(for) her lifetime and after her death(decease) it shall be divided equally amongst my three sons Frederick, William and Joseph and after her death(decease) the plantation shall be equally divided between my three sons Frederick, William and Joseph. Frederick shall have (his share on) the upper part of my plantation, William shall have the lower part, and Joseph shall have the middle part.
Secondly, I give nothing more to my two sons Henry and Christian because they have their shares already of mine(land).
Thirdly I give to my two daughters Elizabeth and Catherine each of them fifteen pounds by reason they have each of them already received fifteen pounds after the death of their mother* and my two daughters Mary and Eva(Eave) shall have each of them thirty pounds at the death of their mother. The money shall be paid by my three sons Frederick, William and Joseph, each of these three boys is to pay in equal parts and if the three boys don't pay the said money to my daughters at the death of their mother then the Executor is to make sale of the land and divide the money equally among the children above mentioned, that is Frederick, William, Joseph, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary, and Eave(Eve).
Fourthly(Finally) my son Frederick shall pay thirty pounds to William, Joseph, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary and Eave(Eve), each of them shall have equal parts or shares of the said money because Frederick has already received the mentioned land(sum) in property that is to say horses and to Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my wife Elizabeth Executrix, Henry Holesapple and Jacob Hazenbiller. This is my last will and testament disowning(dissolving) and revoking all other wills and testaments in witness whereof I have unto subscribed or set my name and seal this first day of November one thousand eight hundred.
