Henry Harshbarger was born in Botetourt County, VA, the only child of Jacob Harshbarger and the widow Sellebarger, whom Jacob married shortly after moving to Virginia from near Hagerstown, MD.
Henry married Frances E. Trail, daughter of James Trail, July 19, 1855 in Roanoke Co., VA.
Henry enlisted in Company K, Booker's Regiment of the 3rd Virginia Reserves April 22, 1864 at Botetourt Co. C.H., Virginia. While in service he contracted a disease and died July 5, 1865.
Family history says that Henry was buried beside of his mother and father, and two of his children who died in infancy.
