Last Rites Held Here
Thursday Afternoon
Charles Walker Boston, son of Sarah (Dale) and Reuben J. Boston, was born at the family home southeast of Carthage, in the East Union community, January thirteen, 1862. He lived in this home his entire lifetime of seventy-four years, and on Tuesday, June thirty, he left it for his heavenly home.
On June 26, 1884, Mr. Boston was united in marriage with Miss Rowena Yetter. After a happy wedded life of fifty-two years, the faithful, devoted wife is left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband.
Mr. and Mrs. Boston were the parents of seven children: May, wife of Dave Kimbrough and Myrna preceded their father in death. Those surviving are Goldie, wife of Olaf Dickinson, Gay, Lula, wife of Don White, Ernest, all living near home, and Fern, wife of Lester Frazee of Keokuk, Iowa. The grandchildren are Raymond White, Mrs. Leola White Shelor, Mrs. Ruth Boston Hardesty, Wayne Boston, Glen Dickinson, Robert Frazee and Marjorie, Norma and Geraldine Boston. There is one great grandchild, Kenneth Wayne Shelor.
Mr. Boston was very devoted to his family and they to him; he was a quiet, unassuming man, and happiest when at home with his family around him. He was a splendid provider. The Golden Wedding celebration, two years ago, planned by the children and their families, was a most happy gathering of family and friends. On last Friday Mr. and Mrs. Boston ate dinner with their daughter, Mrs. Olaf Dickinson and family in observance of their fifty-second anniversary.
The parents of the departed were from Kentucky and are remembered as one of our best pioneer families. Besides the parents, the following brothers and sisters have passed away: Mrs. Jane Lewis, Mrs. Amanda Wright, Mrs. Mahala Austin and Louis, Richard, Sylvester, Henry and Wesley. Those living are Mrs. Clara Newberry of Citronelle, Alabama, Mrs. Lillie David of Selkirk, Kansas, and Mrs. Ella McVay of East Carthage.
When a child Mr. Boston attended school and Sunday school at East Union and has always been interested in the welfare of his community. He was a member of Carthage Baptist church for more than fifty years; he has been true to its teachings, and liberal in its support; he was one of the most generous contributors to the building fund of the present church edifice. He was a successful business man, and honest in all his dealings. His recreation was music and he played several instruments.
Loyal to church, to family, friends and neighbors, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Short services for relatives and close friends were held at the residence at 2 o'clock, Thursday afternoon preceding the funeral service at the Baptist church at 2:30, Rev. J. W. Crouch officiating at the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cutler and Dorothy Frazee and Freeman Grove sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye". Jessie Duffie played the accompaniments. Pall bearers were Charles Kimbrough, Frank Kimbrough, Rev. Morgan Webb, Harry Johnson, Cyrus Cutler and Ed Cutler.
