Henricus Bernardus Vercammen
August 25, 1927 - December 23, 2018
Loving husband, father, opa, great-opa and friend
Harry was born in Luyksgestel, Holland in 1927, one of seven children. He emigrated to Canada in 1953 and began working for various farmers near Redvers, Saskatchewan before beginning to farm for himself in 1956. Harry married Gerardina Veryken (Dina - also from Holland) in 1955, and together they raised their seven children and successfully farmed (grain and cattle) south of Wauchope. During his farming years, Harry was very active in the surrounding communities: he played old-timer hockey and broom ball in Manor, played the saxophone in the Redvers community band, acted in Christmas plays and was an active member of the Cantal parish council. Harry also built Dutch front-lawn windmills, initially for his family and friends, but eventually he sold them to others throughout the province. In 1997, Harry and Dina moved to Redvers, and very soon Harry was singing in the church choir, shoveling snow for neighbors and helping to manage the Redvers Senior Centre. A very sad time in Harry's life was in 2012 when he lost his youngest daughter Linda to cancer. In 2015, Harry and Dina moved to the Primrose Chateau in Saskatoon, where Harry spent several very enjoyable years developing new friendships. Harry is lovingly remembered by his wife Dina and their children, 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Gerry (Carol; Brittany and Whitney), John (Sandra; Natalie and Patrick), Jim (Kelleen; Laura and Kelsey), Mike (Mary Lynn; Malori and Madison), Betty (Darren; Alana and Landan), Linda – deceased (Alain; Alex and Ryan) and Dan (Derrick, Ashley, Sarah, Rylan and Kyler) and Dan’s wife Trina (Tyler, Tori, Jared and Jordyn).
