Jesse Montgbomery Seaver in his typescript "The Seaver Genealogy" (published Philapdelphia PA, 1924) stated that Heman Seaver was a School teacher. He taught for many years in Marlborough, then moved to Montreal Canada where he became very wealthy.

In the 1830 United States census, Heman Seaver was a head of household in Marlboro town, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The household included one free white male aged 5 to 10, one free white male aged 40 to 50, one free white male aged 50 to 60, one free white male aged 60 to 70, two free white females under age 5, one free white female aged 5 to 10, two free white females aged 40 to 50 and one free white female aged 70 to 80 (1830 United States Census, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, Population Schedule, Marlboro, Page 229, FHL Microfilm 0,337,924).

Heman Seaver died testate. His probate records are in Middlesex County (MA) Probate Docket # 20,064 (in FHL Microfilm 0,421,514) for "Heman Seaver of Montreal, Canada." They include:

  • Dated 19 January 1836, a Letter from King's Bench, District of Montreal, Lower Canada to Chief Justice of Massachusetts Court, with affidavit that William Thompson and Thomas Jefferson Greene both of Montreal depose that the will is Heman Seaver's handwriting and signature. Levi Mower and Ebenezer Caldwell Tuttle depose that the will is Heman Seaver's handwriting and signature.
  • Dated 28 June 1836, a Petition for allowance of foreign will, authenticated copy of will for probate. Order for Cit. and Cit. return 3rd Tuesday August next.
  • The Will of Heman Seaver, of Montreal Canada, farmer, dated 22 August 1834 in Montreal, names son Norman Seaver of Boston and wife Sarah Cazneau Seaver as executors. The Will was proved 21 January 1836. and 16 August 1836.

Bequests included:

  • just debts be paid
  • farm in Marlboro bought from Henry Rice to dear wife Sarah Cazneau Seaver.
  • household furniture to wife Sarah Cazneau Seaver
  • a building lot of land to SW of William Watson's to son Norman Seaver
  • 500 Pounds each to other 4 children for education (Norman already having been educated)
  • Remainder of estate divided among 5 children.
  • Dated 16 August 1836, a Decree, Bond $30,000 (Norman Seaver, merchant of Boston, Luther Lawrence of Lowell, and Henry Rice of Boston, merchant). Letter and order, will recorded.
  • In 1837, an INVENTORY taken by Sylvester Bucklin, Nicholas B. Proctor, Thaddeus Howes, all of Marlborough, in 1837 showed $3,000 in real estate, $1793.76 in personal estate.
  • Dated 31 October 1837, the Inventory was accepted.
  • Dated 17 May 1839, a Letter to Probate Court stating that Norman Seaver died, and Sarah Seaver does not want to be executor, and requests that Thomas Cole of Salem be named administrator.
  • Dated 25 June 1839, a Declination of Sarah C. Seaver (widow) and her request for appointment of Thomas Cole as administrator. Petition for administration, Decree and Bond ($20,000) granted to Thomas Cole of Salem.
  • Dated 22 June 1839, an Inventory taken by Sylvester Bucklin, Nicholson B. Proctor and Samuel Chipman showed $3,600 in real estate, $464.10 in personal estate.
  • Dated 3 September 1839, the Inventory of administrator accepted
  • Dated 27 February 1840, a letter from the Massachusetts House of Representatives stating that Thomas Cole is allowed to sell property at auction.
  • Dated 21 March 1843, the second and final account of Thomas Cole submitted.
  • Dated 18 July 1843, Bond for $20,000 by Thomas Cole and Henry Rice.
  • Dated 13 June 1853, a Petition to court from Wilson Homer of Brimfield, accepts trusteeship since Thomas Cole died.
  • Dated 14 June 1853, Bond for $5,000 by Wilson Homer of Brimfield and Henry Rice of Boston.
  • Dated 10 January 1854, the Account of Wilson Homer shows $5,210, including interest on the note of Henry Rice.
  • Dated 10 December 1870, the Account of Wilson Homer, shows $700 each paid out to the heirs of Norman Seaver, William R. Seaver, Elizabeth W. McLeod, Sarah R Day, and Hannah P. Homer.

After the death of Heman Seaver, guardianship of his children was granted to his wife, Sarah C. Seaver (Middlesex County (MA) Probate Docket # 20,065).

  • Dated 22 July 1839, Sarah C. Seaver widow to Heman Seaver of Marlboro, declares William and Elizabeth Seaver are minors over age 14 and Hannah P. Seaver and Sarah R Seaver are minors under age 14. Sarah nominated by William R and Elizabeth Seaver to be guardians of minor children. $10,000 bond posted.
  • Dated 28 July 1843, a Letter of William R Seaver releasing Sarah of guardianship, + account.
  • Dated 10 January 1845, a Letter of Sarah R. Day (formerly Seaver) releasing Sarah of guardianship.
  • Dated 16 January 1844, a Letter of Elizabeth W. Frost (formerly Seaver) (married to Norman Frost of Lower Canada).
  • Dated 15 August 1848, a Letter of Hannah P. Homer (formerly Seaver) (married to Wilson Homer of Brimfield MA)

A death notice was published in the "Columbian Centinel" newspaper in Boston, dated 23 December 1836. It reads: "Seaver, Heman, formerly of Montreal LC d. in Marlboro 18th inst. aged 66."

Heman Seaver, his two wives, and two of his two sons were buried in the Old Common Burial Ground in Marlborough in Worcester County, Massachusetts. The inscriptions read (from "The History of Marlborough, Massachusetts."):

"Here lie the remains of / Heman Seaver / died Dec 18, 1835 / aged 66 ys / and his wife / Elizabeth Seaver / died Feb 5, 1815 / aged 43 years / and their son / Aaron Weeks Seaver / died April 5,1813 / aged 14 yrs / and of Aaron Weeks Seaver 2nd / died June 1, 1819 / aged 6 weeks." (The son last mentioned was the child of the second wife of Heman Seaver, noted next who was the daughter of Noah Rice. The maiden name of the first wife was Weeks)
