She was in the household of George Toothman and Sarah Ice in the 1870 census[2], but not in the 1860 census[4]. Since Sarah would have been over 50 when Helen was born, it is assumed that she was not their daughter, but she may have been the grand-daughter of one of them (presumably George). Neither her marriage record (as available online[3]) nor her death certificate[1] identify her parents.
