LYBARGER Helen Avon Helen A Lybarger passed away July 4, 2006, at the Otterbein Portage-Valley nursing facility at Pemberville, OH. Helen was born Helen Avon Heckerman on April 12, 1918. Helen was preceded in death by brothers, Ivan and Ronald and is survived by Donald (Mike) and his wife, Alice of Hamburg, New York. Helen married Hebert Wesley Lybarger on January 31, 1942. He was killed in action near Hesselfelde, Germany on April 18, 1945. She never remarried. Helen was a retired school teacher having taught at Whitehouse, OH, and in the Oregon schools system. She retired in 1973. Helen has been a member of the OH Education Association, and the City of Oregon Education Association. She is a life member of the National Education Association. Helen has been a long time member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Helen was past president and a life member of the Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society and worked diligently to establish the Brandville School as a historical site and it's conversion to the Brandville School Museum. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the East Community Health Center, worked for several years delivering meals on wheels, was a member of the Oregon Chapter of AARP where she planned and conducted an untold number of day time trips and extended tours. She also served on the Oregon Senior Center Board. Helen is survived by son, Richard and his wife, Betty of The Villages, Florida; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great-grandchild. There will be no visitation and graveside services will be family only at the Neapolis-Providence Township Cemetery on Saturday July 22, 2006.
