    Helen Gould Chambless Carter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in Seymour, Texas. She was a devout Christian who loved nothing more than caring for her family and friends and was admired greatly for her gentle yet tough nature as well as her sewing, culinary and bridge-playing skills.

    She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Joe Harrison, and her son and daughter-in-law, Rea and Karen Carter of Seymour; nine grandchildren, Cecila Hardin of McKinney, Dee Moorhouse of Midland, Camille Baker of Seymour, Tracy Harrison of Carrollton, Lindley Carter of Wichita Falls, Errol Moorhouse of Lorena, Cheryl Smith of Pottsboro, Stephanie McMullen of Crawford, and Chris Moorhouse of Wichita Falls; 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces,nephews and many family friends.

    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Seymour, with Rev. Steve Ulrey and Rev. Sammie Ellis, officiating. Interment will follow in the Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dee Moorhouse, Tracy Harrison, Lindley Carter, Errol Moorhouse, and Chris Moorhouse; and grandsons-in-law, Tony Hardin, John Baker, Vic McMullen and Donnie Smith. Visitation will be 6-7 P.M. Saturday, February 26, at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.

    Mrs. Carter was born September 22, 1912, one of eight children born to Tom and Jemmie Chambless, and grew up in Bomarton, Texas. She graduated from Bomarton High School and attended college at Texas Tech and North Texas. She married Rea Lindley Carter on March 25, 1934. She worked alongside her husband in the family farming business until his death May 14, 1974. She then took a more active role, overseeing the farming and ranching operations until retiring.

    Mrs. Carter was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Seymour, and was active in the Methodist Women and numerous church activities. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, her four sisters and three brothers; a daughter, Carmen Moorhouse; a grandson, Carter Harrison and a granddaughter, Nanette Harrison.
