- ↑ described as the East half of the South East quarter Section 17 and the East half of the North East quarter of Section 20, in Township 127 North, of Range 72 West, of the fifth Principal Meridian. Application No. 4890 had been made at the Land Office in Aberdeen, Dakota on 12 Sep 1885 by Henry Aman Sr. of Long Lake, McPherson County, Dakota Territory and contains his signature. A Homestead Affidavit dated 12 Sep 1885 at the Office of Clerk of Court for McPherson County also contains his signature and states that he and his family were residing on the land where he began improvements 3 Aug 1885 which consisted of a house, barn, well and 10 acres breaking, all valued at $200.00; and because of the great distance and being poor, he was unable to appear at the District Land Office to make the affidavit. A $14 fee was received for the Homestead entry. A Notice of Intention in May 1892 to make final proof to establish his claim indicates that his name should be Heinrich Aman Sr. rather than Henry, and it contains his signature. Final proof notice was published in the Eureka Independent weekly newspaper for six consecutive weeks from 12 May 1892 - 16 Jun 1892. A Non-Mineral Affidavit also contains his signature testifying that there were no mineral deposits on the land.
The Homestead Proof, dated 24 Jun 1892, contains his testimony and signature. Similar testimony was made by his two chosen witnesses, Philip Muller and Christoph Schumacher. According to the testimony, Heinrich was age 52, and his family consisted of a wife and seven children. A sod house 16X45 ft. was built on the land in Sept 1885, and they established residence therein about 15 Oct 1885. Other improvements: a stone stable 20X50, a stone stable 18X36, stone granary 18X26, stone kitchen 18X22, a well, 60 acres breaking and cultivated land, all with a total value of about $400. Land cultivated to crops per season: 1886, 15 acres; 1887, 20 acres; 1888-1891, 25 acres each year. The land was prairie land of fair quality, most valuable for general farming purposes. A Final Affidavit, dated 24 Jun 1892 and containing his signature, states that he was a naturalized citizen and had cultivated and resided on the land since about 15 Oct 1885. Receipt of $4.00 was recorded for the balance of payment required for the land entry, plus 68 cents for the Testimony fee at a rate of 15 cents per 100 words (Number of written words, 451). Final Certificate No. 2454 was issued at the Aberdeen Land Office on 5 Jul 1892, approved 5 Oct 1892, patented 31 Oct 1892 and recorded, Vol. 5, page 454 at the Aberdeen Land Office.
