Orrington, April 28- Miss Hazel Irene Homstead, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Homstead of Orrington, became the bride of Francis Roland Wardwell, son of Mrs. Edith Wardwell, in a ceremony in the Bangor Theological Seminary April 21. White gladioliand lighted cathedral candles decorated the chapel for the ceremony performed by the Rev. Milton Brophy. David Ballard, baritone, was the soloist accompanied by Edward Dodge, organist. The bride, given in marriage by Preston W. Gray, wore a gown of white chantilly lace and tulle. Her lace fitted bodice, which buttoned down the front, featured a high neckline. The full tulle skirt was styled with a taffeta underskirt, and featured a Chantilly lace pepium. Mrs. Frank Shaw, of Orrington, matron of honor, wore a rose taffeta gown, styled with short sleeves, sweetheart neckline, and a bouffant skirt. She wore short white gloves and a floral headdress. Her colonial bouquet was of pink carnations and roses. The reception was held at the VFW Hall, South Orrington, given by Mr. and Mrs. Foster S. Ellis, Jr. The guest book was circulated by Mrs. Forrest Wardwell, and the gifts were in charged of Mrs. Vernon Wardwell. Assisting in serving were Mrs. Raymond Perkins, Mrs. Preston W. Gray, Mrs. Stanley A. Cranker and Mrs. Edith Wardwell. Mr. and Mrs. Wardwell left on a wedding trip. The bride chose a teal blue suit with white accessories and a corsage of yellow roses. They will reside in Orrington. The bride was graduated from Brewer High School and has been employed by the W.T. Grant Company, Bangor. Mr. Wardwell attended Orrington and Brewer Schools. He is employed by Rice and Miller Company, Bangor. -Portland Press Herald 29 April 1951

ORRINGTON - Hazel I. Wardwell, 77, died Nov. 11, 2005, at an Orono healthcare facility. She was born Oct. 2, 1928, in Winterport, the daughter of Charles and Hildred (Hathaway) Homstead. Hazel enjoyed gardening, crafts, fishing, was a lover of all animals and most of all being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Francis "Rokie" Wardwell; two sons and their wives, Dana and Sherry Wardwell and Brian and Edith Wardwell; one daughter and her husband, Karen and Bruce Newcomb, all of Orrington; four grandchildren, Lynn, Nathan, Sarah and Brian Jr. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her infant daughter.
