Kensington, Md.---Hayden Kirby-Smith, 88, died 22 June 1992 at Holy Cross Hospital. He had Alzheimer's disease.
He had a private practice in Dermatology for 52 years before he retired in 1984. For 25 years, he was an Associate Professor of Dermatology at George Washington University Medical School and directed a skin cancer clinic at George Washington University Hospital.
Born in Chiapas State, Mexico, he was reared in Sewanee, Tenn., where he graduated from the University of the South. He did post-graduate study at the University of Southern California and attended Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania before receiving a medical degree from George Washington University. He did postdoctoral study at New York Skin and Cancer Institute.
He was a former Vestryman and Sunday School teacher at Christ Episcopal Church in Kensington.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Marjory C Kirby-Smith of Kensington, their 2 children, Lee Carder Kirby-Smith of Baltimore and Reynold Kirby-Smith of Rockville, Md.; 4 children from his first marriage: Virginia D Kirby-Smith of San Diego, Carolina Kirby-Smith Coble of Greenville, Hayden Kirby-Smith Jr. of Martinsville, Va., Edmund Kirby-Smith of Bethania, N.C.; a sister, Mary Stewart of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Burial in Mexico City.
