Harry was an inmate at the Kansas State Prison and while on work release was managing a service station located east of the prison. Harry was found dead at the service station, his throat cut with a safety razor blade. His unusual death was ruled a suicide. Harry was serving a 3-5 year sentence for the death of a man Harry had shot whom he thought was having an affair with his estranged wife. Though originally charged with first-degree murder, Harry was allowed to plead guilty to second-degree manslaughter. In another twist to this very tragic story, the man Harry shot was Thomas C. Hicks, the father of his intended victim, Albert Hicks. Due to darkness, Hicks was apparently shot by mistake as he stood in his son's yard. Harry had publicly threatened to kill Albert on several occasions. Thomas C. Hicks was buried in Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson.
