In Petersburgh, N. Y., Nov. 4th, 1876, Mrs. Harriet E., wife of Dennis Vars, and daughter of Johnson Peckham, in the 44th year of her age. Sister Vars was hopefully converted to Christ in her youth, and was baptized by Eld. L. C. Rogers, and united with the Berlin Seventh day Baptist church, with which she remained a member until removed by death. During her entire married life she lived at such a distance from the place of worship, that she enjoyed no church privileges. About four days before her death, while attending to her work, her clothing took fire, and having but little or no use of one of her hands, the effect of a previous paralytic shock, and there being no one near, except her small children, she was most fearfully burned before assistance could be obtained. She was a great sufferer until relieved by death. A Husband and five small children are left behind to mourn their loss. B. F. R.
