Harriet Moss was baptised on 20th April 1828 at Caddington in Bedfordshire, daughter of an agricultural labourer and former soldier named Thomas Moss and his wife Martha Winters. They had married twenty years earlier, yet Harriet was probably the first and only child they actually had together. Thomas had gone to be a soldier in India for most of the previous 20 years, in which time Martha had had three children who were clearly not his biological children. Harriet's baptism is the first sighting of Thomas in Caddington since his marriage in 1808.

Harriet did not live long - she died aged three months and was buried on 6th June 1828.
