She was a very beautiful woman with a strong character and it always seemed to us that both Nancy and Charles resembled the Gables or at least their mother's side of the family rather than their father's.

Her nephew, son of her brother William Henry Gable, was the "King of Hollywood", Clark Gable.

These notes and comments were made by Virginia Spearman to William A. Coup.

What follows are "Press Notices" found in an envelope with a picture of Harriet. They are not dated, nor do they indicate what newspaper they are from. But since they discuss Bristol, Tennessee it is probably safe to say that all but one of them are from the local newspaper.

"Elegant Social Function" This afternoon, from 5 to 7 o'clock Mrs. Albert Parlett will give a tea to her host of lady friends, in honor of Miss Ida Miller, of Baltimore, who is her guest. Mrs. Parlett will be assisted in receiving by Miss Miller and Miss Harriett Gable, of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Jerre Bunting, jr., will preside over the punch bowl, while Mrs. Ed Lockett and Misses Irene and Eva McDowell, Mary Barrett and Lollie Montague will have charge of the dining room. This will be one of the most elegant and elaborate social functions of the series of social sessions which have been held by Bristol's swellest society set.

"Reception at Col. Peters'" 'Elegant Entertainment Tendered Their Guest, Miss Gable' The reception given by the Misses Peters, Robinson and Barrett at the home of Col. J. B. Peters Thursday morning in honor of Miss Harriett Gable, of Meadville, Pennsylvania., was one of the most elegant functions ever given in Bristol. Receiving with the young ladies were Mrs. Dr. J. F. Hicks, Misses Irene McDowell, Leta Pitzer, Eva McDowell, Branch Keebler, and Mrs. R. B. Mitchell. The house was most beautifully decorated with cut flowers and palms. The curtains were drawn and the house lighted with candles making a soft, mellow light which added to the loveliness of the occasion. The reception was followed by a card party in the evening from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at which the younger ladies and gentlemen vied with each other for the prizes which were finally won by Miss Gable taking the first ladies' prize, and Miss McDowell the second; Mr. J. Bunting, Jr., the gentlemen's first, and Mr. Lockett the second. The refreshments were both morning and evening were characteristic of Mrs. Col. Peters' entertainments.

"Untitled" (probably from a Meadville, Pennsylvania newspaper) A reception of considerable importance was given Miss Harriet Gable, of this city, last Thursday morning, at Bristol, Tenn., by the Misses Peters, Robinson and Barrett, at the home of Col. J. B. Peters. An exchange says it was one of the most elegant functions ever given in Bristol. The reception was followed by a card party in the evening, at which Miss Gable won first prize.

"Untitled" There was a reception given from 10 to twelve today at Col. J. B. Peters's in honor of Miss Gable, who is the guest there of Miss Barrett. The reception will be continued tonight from 9 to 12.

"Card Party Today" The progressive euchre party given by Mrs. Richard B. Mitchell at her residence on Rose street this a.m. from 9:30 to 1 p.m. in honor Miss Harriet Gable was a most enjoyable affair. The first prize was carried off by Mrs. H. F. Lewis. The second by Mrs. Harrington. The refreshments were very fine.

"Enjoyable Evening and Event" Despite the rain, a large crowd of Bristol's best youths left our city on the Holston Valley Railway on the 8 p.m. train Monday for Big Creek Park where until 11:30 a most joyous time was had. Music, dancing, and refreshments were the features of the program. The moon and the stars shone brightly, the air was refreshingly cool, and most invigorating, making it an ideal evening for such an occasion. The event was in honor of Miss Harriet Gable, of Pennsylvania, was gotten up by Mrs. Jere Bunting, jr., and was chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Jere Bunting, and Capt. and Mrs. A. F. Willey.

"Entertained at Tea" 'Mrs. Albert Parlatt Entertains In Honor of Miss Miller' Mrs. Albert Parlatt gave a tea from 5 to 6 o'clock last evening in honor of her guest, Miss Ida Miller, of Baltimore. Mrs. Parlatt was assisted in receiving the guests on this occasion by Miss Ida Miller and Miss Harriet Gable, the latter of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Jere Bunting, jr., had charge of the punch bowl, and the following ladies had charge of the dining hall: Mrs. Ed Lockett, Misses Irene and Eva McDowell, Lallie Montague and Mary Barrett. The function was a most elegant one and was heartily appreciated by those in attendance, all being in a position to attest to the (missing) manner in which Mr. and Mrs. Parlett entertains.
