Before going to the home last April, Dr. and Mrs. Blott resided at 1968 Ridgelawn Ave.
From 1888 to 1943 Dr. Blott practice medicine in Youngstown. He had most of the honors his colleagues could give him. He was an honorary member of the Mahoning Medical Society, past president of the society and served on the Board of Education.
He was born in North Jackson April 2, 1865, the eldest of three children and a son of John and Amanda Craver Blott, pioneer stock. He attended the district school at North Jackson, graduated from North-East Ohio Normal School at Canfield and went into teaching.

Taught School

Dr. Blott taught at Boardman, Cornersburg and West Austintown district schools. While teaching at Cornersburg he began to study medicine with Dr. D.W. Stafford, a famous family doctor of his day.
With money saved from teaching he went to Western Reserve Medical School and interned in the Youngstown Hospital in the days of its early organization. He was the last surviving member of the class of 1888 at Western Reserve University.
Aug. 15, 1888, Dr. Blott set up practice in Brier Hill, where he had an office for 20 years. Using a horse and buggy, he traveled to see his patients and frequently spent the night with sick patients when it was too late to return to his home. Dr. Blott's equipage was known to everyone in town and he often was called in to see the sick as he drove past, delaying his return home.
"Mother expects me when she sees me," he told friends.

Bought One of 1st Cars In 1900 when the old Mahoning automobile was placed on the market, he was among the first to buy an automobile and held license 53. When telephones were introduced, he was among the first men in town to have one.

In 1897 he was appointed to the staff of the Youngstown Hospital Association in the days when a staff member handled all types of medical and surgical cases.
In recent years he frequently has commented on the growth of medical knowledge and the many tools, reserach, laboratories, new skills and new medicines that today's physicians have to save lives.
Dr. Blott practiced until 1943 and until he retired was one of the most regular men in attendance at all kinds of clinics, postgraduate day assemblies and special lectures designed to bring the physician modern methods.

Helped Carry War Load

In 1942 when his associate left for the Army, even though he had reached advanced years, Dr. Blott extended his working day and helped carry the load of the physician serving his country.
