Translation of Hansine Nielsen's Danish Letters written in 1968 when she was 75 years old.

Haslev, Denmark July 26, 1968

Dear Mrs.

My Mother's parents are Morten Christensen and Karen. I know nothing about where she had the boy, Ole Jensen as it was before she married with my maternal grandfather. My father was named Hans Rasmussen and my mother's maiden name was Maren Sofie Mortensen.

My father, Hans Rasmussen, parents were Hans or Jens Rasmussen and his mother named Karen Rasmussen. I can not remember it well, so many years since they died. It was before I was confirmed as a child, and I am now 75 years old.

My parents were in the old home in Dalby, Denmark, and are buried in the Dalby Church yard. I don't know if it were Pastor Blom there that threw dirt on them or not.

I have a brother who is living at home in Borup, Denmark, and he has a son named Verner Rasmussen. Verner lives in Rode, Denmark, and is married to Herta Krestoffersen. They had the little grocery store there in Rode. It is possible that you know them. I am then Verner's Aunt.

Now kindly regards to your grandmother and the whole family and welcome to come here and say hello if you should come home to Denmark. Hansine Nielsen

Haslev, Denmark

Hans Rasmussen and aunt Kirsten traveled to America on August 26, 1892. A half - brother, Ole Jensen traveled to America on April 10, 1892. So there were 4 sisters;

  • Ane Marie Mortensen
  • Karen Marie Mortensen
  • Ane Kirstine Mortensen
  • Maren Sofie Mortensen

Maren Sofie is our Mother. She married a Rasussen and lived in Dalby, Borup. Our brother has our home now and his nome is Anders Rasmussen.

On June 15, 1902 Aunt Kirsten wrote that our sister, Inger Marie Rasmussen, became married with a man from Bornholm, Denmark, and they have 12 children. I really don't know this as they know no danish and I can read no English. She Died August 10, 1965 at the age of 83 years.

Aunt Ane Kirstine was home in Skrosbjerg and took care of my Mother's parents. Grandmother, Karen Olsdatter, died April 13, 1907 and grandfather, Morten Christensen died April 6, 1910. How I know exactly when they left Denmark is because my mother, Karen Sofie, had written it up in a little book, and then came my father and gave me the book after my mother had died. My father was Hans Rasmussen and lived in Dalby, Borup.

Now I will send you a little picture of the house in Skrodsbjerg where Morten Christensen and Karen Olsdatter lived. It is all I know about the past.

I hope you can use some of this information.

Many kindly regards Hansine Nielsen Jernbanegade 81 4690 Haslev, Denmark

Hansine was born about 1893

Hansine was Kirsten Mortensen's niece. Her Nephew, Verner Rasmussen sold his grocery store in Rode to Svend and Ruth Rasmussen. They were the parents or Kurt Rasmussen and the grandparents to Rolf Rasmussen, Rolf is related to Verner Rasmussen but we did not know in back in 1961. It really is a small world.
