Richard Davis identifies the Hans Meyer who was in Lancaster County in 1724 and was later a member of the Ephrata Cloister in Cocalico Township, Lancaster County with the Hans Meyer (son of Hans Meyer) who was living in Reihen, Germany in 1717.[1]

Davis does not associate this Hans Meyer with Vincent Meyer of Earl Township, Lancaster County. Rather he tentatively identifies the father of Vincent Meyer as Elias Meyer of Earl Township (a possible grandson of Vincent Meyer, Mennonite preacher of Switzerland), based on the fact that Vincent lived next to Elias and witnessed deeds of Elias.[1]

Harry Hoover, based on an account given by Isaac Hoover, grandson of Vincent and Anna (Huber) Myer of Lancaster County, identifies Hans Meyer of Lancaster County as the son of Vincent Meyer, Mennonite preacher of Switzerland, and father of Vincent Meyer of Earl Township, Lancaster County.[2] It appears unlikely that Hans was the son of Vincent Meyer of Switzerland, as he was about 56 years younger than Vincent, and Vincent had a possible son Hans born about 1661.

It is not clear from the account in Huber-Hoover Family History[2] where Isaac Hoover got his information that his great-grandfather was John Meyer - whether it was from his grandparents or from independent research. Wherever he got his information, it appears probable that he was mistaken. While his account is not proven to be false, it would require the existence of 2 Mennonites named Hans Meyer both born about 1684 living in Baden, Germany in 1717. Davis only lists one such man, so presumably there was only 1 listed in the 1717 census of Mennonites in Germany.
