    HANNAH MARTIN MATHENY
    April 1914 Athens Messenger
Memorial-Hannah M. Matheny was born near Easton, Londonery County, New Jersey, Aug 12th 1844 and died at her home in Nelsonville, Ohio, April 9th 1914 aged 69 years 7 months and 28 days. In early life together with her father’s family, she came to Ohio, locating near Athens, Athens County in the year 1851.
At the age of 16 years she was happily converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Factory Chapel near Athens, later moving to The Plains in Athens County, where, on November 17th 1869, she was united in marriage to Loring G. Matheny, which union was blessed with seven children; Edward L., Gerald M., Charles M., Lou, William M., Mary E., and Harry R., Edward L., having died in the year 1892.
During the 18 years of her husband’s active work in the Methodist ministry she was a faithful, companion and true helpmate, and throughout her married life a devout Christian mother and a warm and true-hearted friend, giving the best of her life in the interest of husband and children.
In her illness, during almost five years of helplessness and confinement in her home, due to paralysis she exemplified the true elements of Christian patience and resignation. As one restful in slumber, she quietly passed away, leaving as an inheritance to her children the noblest earthly gift, the example of true Christian motherhood.

Hannah was born 12 Aug 1844 near Easton, Londonery Co, NJ and died in her home in Nelsonville, Ohio 9 Apr 1914 aged 69y 7m 28d. She moved to Ohio with her parents in 1851.
