- Source:History of the Town of Hingham, Massachusetts,Vol. 3, p. 89, says that the widow of Dr. Israel Nichols, Hannah (Foster) (Stowell) Nichols, d. Lowell 27 Sep 1851. There is found a death record (Source:Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records, 1841–1910, Vol. 58, p. 77) for a "Hannah Nichols" in Lowell on that date, age 85 y. 5 m. 25 d [birth calculates to about 2 Apr 1766] specifying parents Joseph and Hannah Foster of Dorchester. One problem is that this means she was a widow for 43 years. Another problem is that the death record says she is married, not widowed, and her husband is not identified in the record. A third problem is that Dorchester records do not seem to have this birth, nor any sign of a Joseph and Hannah Foster. There is a John Foster and Hannah Dowes, but they don't seem to have a daughter Hannah. A fourth problem is that neither a wife of Adam Stowell, nor a couple named Joseph and Hannah of Dorchester, seem to appear in Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Foster Genealogy. The only positive thing is that a birth about 1766 would be a good match for a marriage to Adam Stowell b. 1763. Some kind of confirming evidence would be desirable...
