There was a lot of San and Koikoi settlements in this vicinity and cattle was stolen from the family on a regular basis. Many times Guillaume and his neighbours had to chase after the thieves. To cover more ground they often split into two groups persuing the cattle thieves into the mountains. Whoever arrived first at certain bush had to sound the trumpet. This became known as 'Trompettersbos'. Because the du Toits brothers were the first to enter into Du Toits kloof this was later named after them. Guillaume played a major part in the local community.
