"John P. and Gottliebe Crile both of whom were natives of Germany born in the year 1805. On coming to America the father LOCATED IN MARION COUNTY, OHIO where he lived for eight or nine years. In 1843 he arrived in Jefferson County, Iowa. Settling in Walnut Township . . ."

  JOHN M. Greul, died 12 Oct 1848, age 44 years, 7 months, 17 days

From Allen L. Potts, "Germans to Marion County, Ohio, and Their Ancestors," page 31, and 144:

GREUL, JOHN MATTHIAS, BORN 25 MAR 1804, NEUSAZ, Wuerttemberg, DIED: 12 OCT 1848, Father: Greul, Joahnn Philipp, Mother: Waker, Regina Rosina, Residence: RICHLAND Township
Greul, Johann Matthias, born 25 Mar 1804, Neusaz, Neuenburg, Wuerttemberg, Father: Johann Philipp Greul, Mother: Regina Rosina WAKER
Greul, Johann Philipp, born 8 Aug 1769, Neusaz, Neuenburg, Wuerttemberg, Father: Johann Philipp Greul, Mother: Maria Christina Bott, Spouse: Regina Rosena WAKER, married 3 Sep 1799 Neusaz, Neuenburg, Wuerttemberg

!FROM PARISH RECORDS FOR NEUSATZ, DOBEL (OA.NEUENBÜRG), WÜRTTEMBERG, GERMANY: From Bd. 5 Taufen (v. 5 Christenings) 1789-1807, Frame 195 left, page 124: GOTTLIEBEN KULL, born 11 Oct 1806, in Neusatz, Dobel (OA. Neuenbürg), Württemberg, Parents: Johann Christoph Kull and Christina Ächtler From Bd. 12 Ehe Register (v. 12 Marriages) 1808-1849, Frame 272, page 94:

Married 21 Nov 1833, in Dobel (OA. Neuenbürg), Württemberg, Germany to:

From Bd. 5 Taufen (v. 5 Christenings) 1789-1807, Frame 192 left, page 118: JOHANN PHILIPP GREUL, born 17 Mar 1806, in Neusatz, Dobel (OA. Neuenbürg), Württemberg, Parents: Johann Philipp Greul (1769) and Regina Rosina WACKER

Brother: JOHANN MATTHAES GREUL, born 25 Mar 1804, in Neusatz [From Bd. 5 Taufen (v. 5 Christenings) 1789-1807, Frame 183 right, page 101.]
Together Gottliebe and Johann Philipp (1806) had a son:

JOHANN PHILIPP GREUL, born 15 Sep 1834, in Neusatz [From Bd. 7 Taufen (v. 7 Christenings) 1823-1837, Frame 608, page 151.]

!The family disappears from the Dobel parish register after 1834. The grandfather's (Johann Philipp born in 1769) family book says he "emigrated to America" and the last entry on the grandfather's family page is for 1833.

!ANALYSIS The German birth date 11 Oct 1806 of Gottliebin Greul (nee Kull) is only a few days different from the calculated tombstone birth date, 6 Oct 1806, of Gottleban Crile. The birth date of Johann Philipp Greul, 17 Mar 1806, is only about eight months off from the calculated tombstone birth date, 10 Oct 1806.

!The most convincing evidence of the connection between the Iowa Crile family and the Württemberg Greul and Kull families is the presence in Iowa/Ohio records of a son named John who was born in Germany and father John P.'s brother, John M(atthaes). Both are near the same ages of the son and brother in German records. Together in records in close proximity both in Iowa/Ohio and Württemberg, the four names: Johann Philipp Greul (1806), Gottliebe Kull, Johann Philipp Greul (1834), and Johann Matthaes Greul leave little room for doubt of the link between Iowa/Ohio and Neusatz, Württemberg, Germany.
