Glen Nathan Garrett was born July 22, 1931 in Seattle, the son of Chester and Anita Garrett. He grew up in Vallejo, CA, where he was active in the Sea Scouts and developed a passion for sailing and boats. Glen graduated from Stanford University where he worked at the campus radio station and was on the rowing team. His engineering degree set the stage for his 38-year career at Northrop. Glen loved the outdoors and was an avid sailor, hiker, and runner. His easygoing nature was complemented by his calm ability to see the big picture and do whatever was necessary for others. A devoted husband and father, Glen married his wife Noel in 1958, and in 1964 they moved to Palos Verdes Estates with their sons, Lee and Brett. The couple enjoyed many summers in Friday Harbor, Washington, and they loved to spend time with friends in Mazatlan. Glen passed away peacefully at home with his sons at his side on March 10, 2011, eighteen years after his initial diagnosis of non-Hodgkins lymphoma and three years after Noel's passing. A "Celebration of Life" honoring both Glen and Noel will take place on May 7, 2011 at their home in Palos Verdes Estates. Donations can be made on Glen's behalf to The National Parks Conservation Association
