Jay, Glema's father changed the spelling from Penix to Penick. I don't know if the change was recorded at any court house in Michigan or Indiana. Jay and Flossie Penick's children, as well as Jay and Effie Penick's children, were recorded at birth as being Penick, their legal name from birth to death or marriage. In Angola Indiana on 1 June 1942, Jay B. Penick registered his birth being May 10, 1886, Branch County, Michigan, father Frank Penick born in the State of Ohio, mother Amanda Clinedentz born in the State of Ohio and that the physician or midwife was Mrs. Sylvester Calhoun.

Jay's father Francis Penix started using the Penick spelling at the same time as Jay did.
