Gladys M. Scheaffer, 90, a longtime Peshastin resident, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 15, 1996, at Colonial Vista Convalescent Center.
She was born on March 14, 1906, to Frank and Virginia (Ice) Platz at Delavan, Kan., where she was raised and attended school. At a young age she helped cook for the grain harvesters.
On Jan. 11, 1925, she married Lester M. Scheaffer at Delavan. In February of that same year they moved to Peshastin where they had since made their home. For a brief time she worked at the Peshastin Saw Mill. She then spent many years working in fruit warehouses in Peshastin from which she retired.
She was a longtime member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Harold Howerton, Wenatchee; two brothers, Edgar Platz, East Wenatchee, and Melvin Platz, Scott City, Kan.; one sister, Sylvia Weltmer, Great Bend, Kan.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Dan (Lynn) Fisher, and two great-grandchildren, Jay and Jennifer Fisher, all of East Wenatchee. She was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers and three sisters.
Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
GLADYS M. SCHEAFFER - Funeral services will be held at the Peshastin United Church of Christ Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Jerry Beebe officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at the Peshastin Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Those who wish may make memorials to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley.
