"(157.) Capt. Gideon4 Hollister. (Gideon,3 Stephen,2 Lieut. John1). Capt. Gideon,4 son of Gideon,3 Hollister and Rebecca Sherman, was born in Stratford in 1725. (Baptized Sept. 21, 1725.) [not likely since 21 September 1725 (O.S.) was a Tuesday] … Gideon Hollister resided in Woodbury, Conn. He was a carpenter and joiner as well as farmer, and with his own hands built two houses, and had another built for him. Two of these houses have always been occupied by his descendants. The first house, which was his own, was torn down about 1820. He also left some good specimens of cabinet work. He was captain of militia, and received his commission from the crown of England. He represented his town in the legislature in 1780-81. He also held several minor offices. He died in Woodbury, Dec. 30, 1812."
