    Gideon-4 Hannum (Samuel-3,John-2,William-1) of Cold Spring, later Belchertown, born at Northampton 3 Mar 1727, died at Belchertown 25 June 1786. He married 3 Mar 1752, ABIAH COWLES, who died 9 Feb 1796, daughter of John and Mary Cowles of Hatfield.

    In the Revolution Gideon Hannum was a sergeant in Capt. John Cowles's company in 1775 and a private in Capt. Jonathan Bardwell's company in 1777. He was a lieutenant (or captain) in the Northern Army in September and October 1777. The monument on the green at Belchertown names him as lieutenant.
