He was originally a weaver in Genoa until called to Spain by his eldest brother, Cristoforo; he entered ecclesiastical orders in Seville later in life. Unmarried, but he had an illegitimate daughter in Santo domingo by a servant girl in the household of his nephew, Diego.^S1
