- GERALD W. "JERRY" LEWIS
- Gerald William Lewis, Age 70, of Northridge, California, passed away on December 3, 2011 at his home amongst family. Jerry was born April 20, 1941 in Lakeland, Florida, the 3rd of 4 children born to the late Jack and Febbie Lewis. He moved to California from Florida in 1967 and retired in about 2000 from a 34 year career with Ralphs Grocery Company. He started with Ralphs working as an order selector in the warehouse, worked his way up in the stores to Store Director and later served for many years as Director of the Dairy/Deli Division for Ralphs and Food-4-Less in their corporate office in Compton, California.
- Jerry was an avid sports fan (Lakers, Dodgers), golfer during his adult life. While working at Ralphs, Jerry was very involved in a local food industry trade association, the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California. Jerry received several Food Industry honors including the "Big Cheese" award in April 1984, the Retailer of the Year award in 1992, and the "Hall of Fame" award in 2004 for his leadership and support of the DDBC. He also was elected and served as President of the DDBC in 1992.
- Jerry served his country in the Army Reserves from 1961-1967 as an Engineer and as a member of the Military Police (M.P.'s).

- After his retirement from Ralphs, Jerry and his family spent much of their time on Jerry's speedboat, named "Maiden America", and also constructing numerous woodworking projects and creating attractive artwork using gourds (some shown in photos below).
- Jerry was known as "The Gadget Man" by his friends and family, for his ability to fix and create things in his home workshop. He was very patriotic and one of his favorite songs was "God Bless the U.S.A.".
- He is survived by his (2nd) wife, Bonnie; his four children, Jerry Jr. (wife Asher Primrose), Meghan, Brian, Melissa; and his two grandchildren, Sydney and Owen. He is also survived by his older brother, Jack; twin brother, Jim (wife Janet); and younger sister, Janice Pflaum (husband Craig).
- A Memorial Service was held on December 7th, 4:00pm, at First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills in Northridge. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the City of Hope or the First Presbyterian Weekday School Scholarship Fund.
