    George Thompson was commissioned a lieutenant in the 5th Regiment of Kentucky militia on 14 Dec 1803. On 18 Sep 1812 he entered Capt. Samuel Maccoun's company in the 5th Regiment (south's) of Kentucky Mounted Volunteers as a private. On 29 Sep 1812 he was promoted to aide-de-camp to Gen. James Ray with the rank of captain, serving on the expedition against the Indians to Vincennes and Fort harrison until 12 Nov 1812. He was a member of the Kentucky legislature from Mercer County, 1820-21 and 1840, and was Speaker of the House of Representatives, 1820.
