Catherine would already be married to James Utley. This would help explain why she is on the 1850 census for Hillsdale County, Michigan after Cyrenus Augustus McLain passed away.

Louise McLain Shambaugh has the following upon George: daughter (Catherine) of old man (George Swager), (George Swagger had chopped his way from Defiance to Camden (formerly Henpeck, George is on the Camden twp. census for 1840)

1796 tax list of Bedford County shows a Peter Swiger.

In 1800 census of Bedford County, Pennsylvania there is a Jacob Swager 10010-20001 The son could be George. A William Swager lives in the same county with 01010-20010. The son here appears to be too old for George. A John Swager lives in the same county with 31010-21010. The sons could be George.

In 1810 Census of Bedford County, Pennsylvania there is a William Swager with 11101-10201

Taken from http://www.hillsdalecounty.info/history0020.asp Taking up 40 acres in the SE corner of Section 9 in 1837 was James Hall. Taking land in the NW quarter of Section 35 was Zachariah Jackson. At about this same time George Swiger, his son, Leonard and sin-in-law, John Flake and Enoch Thompson arrived. These men had found that the hunting was becoming unprofitable in Ohio so now they were ready to begin the task of clearing land for farming but continued to do a good deal of hunting. Many of their neighbors benefited from the game they provided.
