- In the name of God Amen I, George Smith of Pittsylvania County and State of Virginia being of perfect health of body, of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die as make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I Give and recommend my soul into the Hands of the Almighty God who Gave it and my BodyI recommend to the earth to be Buried in decent Custom, Burial at the Discretion of my executor and touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I Gave Devise and disposeof the same in the following Manner and form:
- First I will and desire that all my just debt sbe paid then leave unto my daughter of Beheatherland Lawrence Thirty pounds in cash to my Lucy Watson I leave fifteen pounds in cash to be paid to themor their legal representatives in Eighteen Months after my Decease by my Executors hereafter named or if any property Valued at Cash price taken out of my Estate would Suit better to be Valued to them in three months after my Death they are to have their Election which to Chuse
- Item I give my Dutiful Son Jabez Smith all and singular my Plantation lands and Tenements which I poped on Own Either by Deed or patent of whatsoever Description to him and his heirs forever. I give unto him also all my Slaves Viz., Symie, Reubin, Stephe, Dick, Easter, Vilotte, Nance, and Jude with there Increase To him and his Heirs forever. Also my stock of Horses Cattle hogs sheep household furniture Plantation utensils all Debts Due me on Hooks Bend or other specialties with all and every other part of my property Realor persona lwhatsoever to him and his heirs forever and lastly I do hereby Constitute and appoint my dutiful Son Jabez Smith and much Esteemed Friend and acquaintance James Hopkins Executors of this my last Will and Testament Revoking all other Wills by me formerly made and acknowledging this only to be My last Will and Testament in Testamony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty ninth Day of July in the Year of our lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight

- At a Court held for Pittsylvania County the 15th day of May 1809 The within last will and Testament of George Smith Deceased was presented in Court and proved by the Oaths of George K. Smith, Joseph Reynolds and Hartwel lAllen three of the subscribing witnesses, Ordered that the same be Recorded and on the motion of Jabez Smith and James Hopkins the Executorsin the sd.Will named who made oath according to law and to other with Henry G. Calloway, Hartwell Allen and James Hart their Securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of seven thousand dollars for that purpose conditioned as the law directs, Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate of thee sd. Will in due form.
