                          SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS,The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George Calvin "Prof" Reid, who recently passed away; and WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, on August 8, 1916; his parents were George Hoster and Naomi Glenn Reid; on August 21, 1936 he married Gertrude L. Ross in Carlinville; and WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid was the music teacher at Carlinville High School for 35 years before his retirement in 1975; Mr. Reid was the band director and a member of the Carlinville Muni Band; and WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid was a member of Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412, Alpha Xi Fraternity, and the Illinois Music Educators Association; he was a charter and lifetime member of the Carlinville Lions Club; he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1955; he was the first Eagle Scout in Carlinville, Troop #62; and WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid is survived by his sons, Dr. James Reid, John Reid, Jerry Reid, George Reid, Ed Reid, Bob Reid, Ken Reid, Dr. David Reid, and Don Reid; his daughters, Margie Oftedahl, Anne Dowland, Ruth LeVoy, Judy Hussey, Carol Miller, and Susan Weber; his 54 grandchildren; his 24 great-grandchildren; his sister, Florence Wentrcek; and three nieces; therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with family and friends, the death of George Calvin Reid of Carlinville, Illinois; may they find comfort in this time of loss; and be it further RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George Calvin Reid.
