NOLTE, George V., age 87 of 1509 E. Victor, passed away March 6, 1978. Mr. Nolte was a lifetime resident of this community & a retired contractor. He was a member of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44 F & AM, and was the son of a pioneer family of this area. In 1921 he purchased the old Kent-Marvin Machine Co. and operated that for a number of years under the name of George V. Nolte Co. Later he purchased the interest from the owners of Whidbey Island Sand & Gravel Co. which he operated in Bellingham for a number of years under the name of George V. Nolte Co. Building Materials, Sand & Gravel. He later consolidated with the old Caine-Grimshaw Co. He sold out his interest there and established a general contracting business under the name of George V. Nolte Co., specializing in sewers, curbs, gutters and paving. He managed the Fraser River Gold Dredge Co. Later he operated the Moses Lake & Columbia Basin under the name of George W. Nolte Construction Co. of Bellingham. He sold out there in 1958 and with Kenneth Dawson operated a general construction company specializing in paving & sewer work throughout Washington State. He retired a number of years ago but maintained a office in the consulting capacity for quite a few years. He is survived by 1 son, George S. Nolte, Pebble Beach, Calif., 2 daughters, Mrs. Marion (Winifred) Keyes of Ketchikan, Alaska, Mrs. Gale (ElizabethAnne) Pfueller, city, 2 brothers, Ernest Nolte of Lummi Island, Edward Nolte of Lacey, Wash., 1 sister, Clara Fassett of Olympia, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Services were held Wed. March 8, 11 a.m. in Bay View Cemetery. Officers of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44 officiating. Burial in Bay View under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.
