Parents: G.W. McLain and Sarah Smell." NOTES: Warren McLain's Memories: George Washington McClain didn't speak english until he was 4 years old. He spoke German. Warren's wife, Frances said that one of Sarah's family and spouse raised George. Also that George was raised by an uncle. DEATH: Michigan Dept of Health. Vital Records Section, Lansing, Michigan. Death records Listed under year. George Washington McLain died 10 May 1946, Jackson, Jackson, Michigan. Buried 13 May 1946 in West Reading Cemetery, Reading, Hilsdale, Michigan. NOTES:from Ina McLain: Christian Schmell (Smell) and wife Lena were the uncle and aunt that raised George after his father died and probably after his mom married Frank Stiles.

    (Addition: Have since found that the Dick family buried in the Ohio Cemetery, are the parents of the George (Dick) that Christian and Catherine Smell raised.  Christian and Catherine Smell were Sarah Smell's parents. George McLain and George Dick - both being raised by other families was confusing until I found the Dick records and talked to the family.  There are 1900 members of the Dick family in our records because of the connection of the families.)
