    George Maxson came to Wirt from Rhode Island about 1826 with his family, and located on the farm owned by Alvan Richardson. His wife, Eleanor Barber, died there in 1852, and he died in 1853. Their childred were Eleanor, George, Mattew, Lavinia, Job, Nathan, John, Moses, Nancy, David, Joseph, Benjamin and Polly. All but two or three lived to be heads of families.

    In Wirt, Nov. 8, 1853, George Maxson, aged 74 years, 11 months, and 15 days. Bro. Maxson was one of the early settlers of this town, and enjoyed his health to a good old age, and died in hope through Jesus Christ.
