GIBSONVILLE — George Clarence “Sam” Kernodle, 70, of 973 Kernodle Road, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of 49 years to Laura Mansfield Kernodle and the son of the late John George Kernodle and the late Myrtle Isley Kernodle. Sam was known as a “jack of all trades” but his lifelong love was farming. He was always ready with a helping hand when needed and he was a charter member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Laura Mansfield Kernodle of the home; a son, George Brian Kernodle and his wife, Vikki, of Gibsonville; four stepgrandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Kernodle of Elon. Sam was preceded in death by a brother, John Lewis Kernodle; a sister, Dorothy Kernodle Gentry; and five half sisters, Leila Bradsher, Ruth Ivey, Gertrude Harris, Georgis Sharpe and Mildred Zimmerman. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tommy Privette. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Reidsville. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and at other times the family will be at the home.
