GEORGE was probably born in the (Duchy?) of Hesse-Cassel, which was located north of the Palatinate, from where most of the early Urbana, Indiana pioneers had migrated. There was also an independent German speaking state of Hesse-Darmstadt, once located to the east and south. Between Hesse-Cassel and the Palatinate was the state of Nassau. The whole area now (2014) is part of the German province of Hesse.
