George Gobby was born in 1841 at Toddington in Bedfordshire, son of a straw plaiter named Esther Gobby. George's father's identity is unknown. George appears as a three week old baby in the 1841 census, living with his mother, siblings and aunt's family at Woburn Street in Toddington.

George was baptised at Toddington on 22nd May 1841, when he was about a year old. He died just a few days after his baptism, being buried on 1st June 1842 at Toddington.
