George A. Derstine enlisted in Co. E, Pennsylvania 15th Infantry on 1 May, 1861. He mustered out 8 Aug 1861 at Carlisle, He later enlisted as a Corporal 15 Sept 1862 and mustered out 24 Sept 1862. George then enlisted in Company B, 10th Regiment, Regular Army. He was discharged 3 Sept 1864 for disability. George was wounded in the Battle of North Anna River, Virginia and his right arm was amputated.
