- George Crutchfield was a minor (under 14) when his father William died in Caroline County, Virginia in 1757. His original guardians were Ambrose Lipscomb and Richard West. He was still a minor TEN YEARS LATER, when his guardianship was transferred to his older brother Stapleton in 1767. Given these dates, George must have been 4 years old or younger when his father died in 1757. He must have been born about 1755, or perhaps a year or two earlier or later.
